French artist and globetrotter, Seth Globepainter, recently went back to Ukraine to paint more murals with his local artist friend, Kislow. While the eyes of the world are focused on this politically unstable region, the Paris-based artist and his Ukrainian friend decided to put some light and color into people's lives by creating this beautiful mural in the Podil district, the old part of Kiev. Entitled Renaissance, the wall took about a week to finish, with its imagery and title suggesting that the current turbulence that the country is going through will bring bright changes and a better future. The main character is a young girl is representing Ukraine taking its future in her own hands by significantly holding up a little boy. She is wearing a military jacket that protesters at Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) were wearing as well as traditional Ukrainian flowers in her hair. The boy calmly looking in the distance suggests a better tomorrow, which is emphasized by the girl character embracing and protecting the buildings underneath. After finishing this piece, Seth will continue painting more works around the city. Photo credit: Aleksey Kislow & Marie Meneau. Discuss Seth Globepainter here.
