Daan Botlek recently spent few weeks in India, traveling and painting. During his stay in Mumbai, he took part in the local St+Art India Festival and created this effective piece on a local elementary school. As usual in his work, he worked in the architectural elements of the building, making the mural blend with the space.
Using a limited color palette, and several very effective depth perception tricks, he painted this unique piece - Continental Drift. The title comes from a local passerby who commented that the image reminds him of Pangea, the supercontinent from 500 million years ago with a square earth in the middle, with the stones as continents drifting apart. Working in the school yard, the Dutch artist had a lot of interaction with the local kids that were intrigued by his work, who even had to write essays about what the new image on their school wall.
